- Maryland lawmakers passed a same-sex marriage law with a vote of 72-67 last week, and one of the Republicans who switched in less than 24 hours from supporting traditional marriage to a pro-gay marriage stance has left the public and some of his peers confused.

- The Maryland House of Delegates passed a gay marriage bill with no votes to spare late Friday afternoon by a vote of 71-67. The measure will now go to the Senate where it is expected to pass and then be signed by the governor.
- The Maryland Assembly passed a bill on Friday that would legalize same-sex marriage by a vote of 71-67. Prior to Friday's vote, First Lady Katie O'Malley made a comment that seemed designed to put pressure on the state's black Democratic delegates.
- New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie kept his vow to veto a bill allowing same-sex marriage Friday as he sent it back to the legislature, reiterating that the voters should decide if they want a societal change as significant as allowing gay marriage.

- New Jersey's Assembly passed a same-sex marriage bill late Thursday afternoon that would make it the eighth state to allow homosexual couples to marry. But Republican Gov. Chris Christie, promising "swift action," has pledged to veto the measure.

- For nearly 20 years couples have been getting married on top of New York's landmark Empire State Building on Valentine's Day. And while that tradition continued this Valentine's Day, there was one key difference; 2012 was the first time that same-sex couples were able to marry atop the 102-floor skyscraper.
